Old-House Plumbing Modernization: Galvanized, Lead, Cast-Iron, and Mixed Legacy Systems
Older homes often contain several generations of plumbing rather than one uniform system. Supply piping, drains, fixtures, water heating, and previous repairs may have different materials and different reasons for replacement. Plan the system before pricing a single visible leak or fixture.
Map supply, drainage, and history separately
A mixed old-house system may contain galvanized or copper supply, lead-containing components, cast iron or other drain materials, modern repairs, abandoned branches, and fixtures worth retaining.
