Water associated with irrigation, plumbing, or a neighbouring grade change may need a different specialist. None of these patterns proves a cause, but each should change the questions in the quote.
Make the proposed outcome measurable
Ask the contractor to describe what success means: less water beside the house, a defined surface route, a dry walking area, a functioning outlet, or a stable grade through a wet season. Ask what inspection or test will show that the system is working and who maintains it. A proposal that promises to “eliminate standing water” without naming the receiving route may be promising more than the site can support.
If the recommended work includes a dry well, buried pipe, swale, or channel, request the route and overflow plan in writing. If it includes filling or regrading, request the finished elevation and restoration assumptions.
