Budget a professionally planted tree by separating the tree, delivery, site and utility checks, excavation, support, watering, establishment care, and warranty.

Professional Tree Planting Cost

The installed cost of a tree includes more than nursery stock. Delivery, size, site access, utility conflicts, excavation, soil conditions, support, mulch, irrigation, establishment care, and replacement terms can matter as much as the tree itself.

Price the complete installation

Ask the provider to separate the tree, delivery, site assessment, utility locating, excavation, soil preparation, planting, staking or support where appropriate, mulch, watering, cleanup, and follow-up. A small container tree in an open yard and a large specimen moved through a restricted site are different handling projects.

TreesAreGood connects planting success with selection, site and utility conflicts, installation, mulch, watering, and establishment care. Its planting brochure gives a 2–3 inch mulch example kept away from the trunk and recommends follow-up watering at least weekly when rain is absent, with more attention in hot or windy conditions. Those are source guidance examples, not a universal schedule for every species, climate, soil, or transplant.

Main cost drivers

  • tree species, availability, caliper or stock size, maturity, and root condition;
  • delivery distance, access, gates, slopes, equipment, and overhead conflicts;
  • excavation, soil correction, buried debris, and irrigation readiness;
  • support, protection, establishment visits, and plant warranty;
  • whether the planting is required as replacement after removal or construction;
  • local street-tree, permit, or replacement requirements.

The active evidence does not establish a comparable current U.S. or Canadian installed-price range. Keep nursery, delivery, labor, equipment, establishment care, and replacement guarantees separate. A U.S. market signal is not a Canadian price converted by exchange rate.

Replacement planting and warranties

Toronto’s permit guidance provides a local example where approved tree work may require replacement planting and protection measures. That obligation is city-specific and does not establish a rule elsewhere. If planting is tied to a permit, ask who chooses the species and size, when proof is due, what maintenance is required, and how survival is judged.

Compare the quote by tree size, planting location, included aftercare, watering responsibility, warranty exclusions, and the condition that starts any warranty period. A professional site assessment is often worth pricing separately when the tree is large, close to utilities or structures, or intended to replace a protected tree.

A bounded planting example

For one replacement tree, compare nursery stock, delivery, site preparation, planting labor, staking or support where appropriate, initial watering, mulch, aftercare, and replacement terms as separate lines. If a local permit or replacement condition applies, price the required documentation and follow-up separately; neither Toronto’s example nor a U.S. market signal sets a universal planting price.
