Request lines for tub or finish removal if applicable, protection and disposal, base or pan, drain, wall system, substrate, waterproofing, fixtures, controls, enclosure, bench or niche, plumbing, electrical, ventilation, floor repair, and final finishes. Access from below can affect sequence and restoration.
A new walk-in shower may fit an existing footprint or require moving the drain and extending the wet area. Ask how the proposed system will be checked before finishes conceal it.
Accessibility is a separate question

When cost escalates
Expect more complexity when the floor cannot accommodate the drain slope, the structure must be recessed or built up, the existing subfloor is damaged, the shower is custom, the room is above a finished space, or the tub removal exposes additional work. A new door or frameless enclosure may require precise support and measurement; a doorless design may require more floor and splash planning.
Compare the walk-in shower with retaining the tub, installing a lower-threshold unit, or converting the entire room. The best budget makes the threshold, assembly, access, and user outcome explicit.
